Roslein safety
Safety and crisis response protocol
How Roslein responds when a phone conversation may involve suicide, self-harm, or immediate danger.
Get help now
If you or someone else may be in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency service now.
If you are thinking about suicide or hurting yourself, call or text 988 in the United States. You can also contact a trusted person nearby. Do not wait for Roslein to arrange help.
Purpose of this protocol
Roslein is an AI phone companion designed for friendly conversation. It is not an emergency service, crisis counselor, caregiver, monitoring service, or substitute for professional help.
This protocol is intended to reduce the risk that Roslein produces content that encourages suicide or self-harm and to provide crisis-resource information when a caller may be at risk.
How Roslein may respond
Roslein uses layered automated safety checks. When it detects possible self-harm or immediate danger, it may pause the ordinary conversation and ask a brief safety question.
Roslein may provide information about 988 or 911 and encourage the caller to contact a trusted person nearby. If urgent danger is confirmed or remains unclear, Roslein may end the call after directing the caller to real-world help.
When words are unclear or misunderstood
Phone transcription and AI systems can misunderstand speech. Roslein may ask for clarification before escalating a concern and can return to ordinary conversation when the caller clarifies that there is no current danger.
Important limitations
These safeguards cannot guarantee that Roslein will identify every emergency or interpret every statement correctly.
Roslein does not call 911, dispatch help, continuously monitor a participant, or guarantee that a caregiver or family member will be notified. Never rely on Roslein instead of 911, 988, facility staff, a caregiver, or another qualified person.
Privacy during a safety response
Roslein processes conversation text during a call to operate these safety checks and may retain a limited safety record. It is not a saved call recording or full transcript.
Detailed crisis statements are not included in family or caregiver AI interaction reports. Read more about ordinary call information in Privacy and consent, or contact Ience with a question about your information.
Protocol maintenance
Ience reviews Roslein's safety behavior and updates this page when the protocol materially changes. This public description supports the requirements of California Business and Professions Code section 22602.
