Roslein Q&A

Answers for people trying Roslein, and the family members or caregivers helping them.

Getting started

What is Roslein?

Roslein is an AI phone companion designed for older adults who would enjoy more conversation. It works through an ordinary phone call, with no app or new device needed. It supplements human connection and does not replace family, friends, or caregivers.

What can we talk about?

Everyday life, hobbies, favorite activities, family stories, or memories. There is no right answer to give. The short phone demo uses a school-memory scenario and calls you Jamie, age 75; you can use real memories or make them up.

How do I try it, and is there a cost?

Choose a three-minute phone demo, or arrange an introductory call, usually 5–10 minutes, for an adult 60+. The introductory call has no cost; we email first to agree on a time. Contact Ience for ongoing availability and any costs before agreeing to more calls.

What phone and language do I need?

The demo supports U.S. phone numbers. Roslein works through a regular mobile or landline call; the participant does not need a smartphone or internet setup. Calls are currently in English. Contact Ience about voice preferences during setup.

How are ongoing calls scheduled?

Contact Ience to agree on preferred days, times, and call frequency. Calls are attempted during those windows. A missed call does not mean repeated redials; the next call depends on the agreed schedule.

Can I skip, pause, or stop calls?

Yes. You can let a call go unanswered or hang up whenever you like. Contact Ience to pause, change the schedule, or stop ongoing calls. Trying an introduction does not commit you to more calls.

Privacy and family involvement

Are calls recorded or transcripts saved?

No conversation recordings are kept. The transcript is deleted after each call. If you mention a notable event, Roslein may keep a brief note to bring it up in a future conversation, but it does not retain the conversation log.

What does Roslein remember, and what other information is kept?

Roslein may keep a brief memory cue, such as enjoying baseball or gardening, to help future conversations feel familiar. These notes are not a full account of the conversation. The service also keeps contact details, call preferences, consent information, and call activity records. AI interaction trends, such as an increase in call length, may also be kept for agreed reports. These help review whether the AI is interacting within appropriate boundaries. For the demo, your phone number is used to verify and place the call and limit demo usage. Contact Ience with questions about your information.

Can a family member help someone sign up?

Yes. A family member or caregiver can help with signup and scheduling, with the participant's permission. The participant can make this choice independently or with appropriate support. Helping with signup does not automatically give someone access to reports, and private conversations are not shared with family members.

What can family members or caregivers receive?

With the participant's agreement, a designated family member, caregiver, or staff contact can receive a brief weekly AI interaction report. It describes interaction trends, such as calls becoming longer, to help review whether the AI is interacting within appropriate boundaries. It does not assess the participant's health or wellbeing. Reports contain no quotes, detailed transcripts, or sensitive personal details.

Can the participant stop sharing AI interaction reports?

Yes. The participant can withdraw permission at any time. Contact Ience to stop reports or change who receives them.

What Roslein can and cannot do

Can I talk about health, money, or legal concerns?

Yes. You can talk about experiences, feelings, and everyday concerns. Roslein can listen and keep the conversation going, but it does not diagnose conditions, recommend treatments or investments, or give personal medical, legal, or financial advice. Speak with a qualified professional for advice about your situation.

Can Roslein help in an emergency?

Roslein is not an emergency service, caregiver, or monitoring service. Do not wait for Roslein to notice a problem or arrange help. For urgent assistance, call 911 or your local emergency service. Read how Roslein handles possible crisis statements in the safety and crisis response protocol.

Does Roslein shop, browse websites, or ask for passwords?

No. Roslein is designed for conversation rather than tasks such as shopping, browsing websites, or controlling devices. It does not ask for passwords, Social Security numbers, or payment details.

Is Roslein suitable for someone with memory loss?

Familiar topics and gentle reminiscence may be enjoyable, but suitability depends on the person. The participant should understand and agree to take part, with appropriate support if needed. Roslein is not a treatment for memory loss and does not replace care, supervision, or human connection.

What if a conversation does not feel right?

You can change the topic, say you would like to stop, or hang up at any time. Roslein is AI and can misunderstand or make mistakes. Contact Ience if you would like to discuss an experience or adjust future calls.
